United States policy on study-attendance

US court pauses the new D/S rule on 14 September; the current student status system continues

The United States Federal Court suspended the fixed-term stay rule, which had been scheduled to enter into force on 15 September, and the D/S framework was maintained for the time being. Australia's student visa refusal rate reaches a ten-year high of 24.2%

ABC, based on data compiled by Department of Home Affairs, showed that in June 2026 the student visa denial rate had risen to 24.2 per cent, up from 7.9 per cent in June 2016. UK Student visa financial requirements rise in late November, alongside changes to Erasmus+ rules

US federal court rules against revoking student visas over constitutionally protected speech

The United States Federal District Court for the Northern District of California, on 28 August 2026, ruled that the Government could not use specific immigration laws to revoke visas or initiate repatriation for legitimate statements protected by the First Amendment. The decision was the first instance of the Federal District Court, which did not issue a permanent injunction and could still be appealed.

UK Child Student visa changes: a carer's suspended sentence may affect an application

In the United Kingdom, the Code of Criminal Records for Child Students has been updated since August 2026.
