The University of Hong Kong's (HKU) admission website has been published and is now in the process of becoming a student in Hong Kong. The International/Non-JUPAS application for admission to school will open on 23 September 2026 。 For Taiwan students, applications are usually made through an international course or a non-Hong Kong DSE qualification.

HKU states that International/Non-JUPAS applies to applicants holding international qualifications, overseas national examination qualifications, or other non-HKDSE qualifications. This also includes a large number of students who attend IB, A-Level, Canadian High School programs, etc.

First you apply, then you get your grades.

HKU has made it clear that if the official examination results have not yet been published, the student can apply first with an interm, predicated or updated results before uploading the latest results to the application system.

This is also where the University of Hong Kong's application is very different from some of Taiwan's transition systems: the application does not have to wait until all the final results are available, but it can be reviewed in advance.

What does Rolling Admissions mean?

HKU enrolment information indicates that applications may continue to be accepted after the first cut-off date, but will be reviewed in Rolling Basis according to the remaining number of places in each section. Thus, "all by the final deadline" does not amount to "no difference between late delivery" .

During the past application cycle, students who had completed their applications earlier were also usually placed in the first round of review and interview arrangements earlier. For the Department of Hotgates, there is no need to drag documents into the last round of delivery if they are ready.

What can Taiwan students prepare for now?

Before opening on September 23rd, students can do three things first: confirm the academic and subject requirements of the target department, prepare estimates and official results documents, and prepare personal status, references and English proficiency certificates.

The current website of the HKU also includes a wide range of English language proficiency determinations. For example, IELTS, the common baseline is Academic overall 6.5; The Canadian upper secondary school programme is eligible to meet the English language requirements according to the criteria specified for Glade 12 Engineering, but the actual course should still be based on the application annual and science course page announcements.

For Taiwan’s students, one of the advantages of the University of Hong Kong is that applications are made early and the results are likely to be published in batches, and that it is therefore appropriate to be the Asian option in the multi-country application strategies of Britain, Canada, Australia, and so on, rather than waiting for the results of other countries.
