Twenty universities in Korea faced visa restrictions for foreign students from the autumn term of 2026. Korean media Korea JongAng Daily reported on 9 September that the D-2 visa and the D-4 visa, which cover degree courses, were restricted for a period of one year.

Twenty universities are divided into two categories of limitations.

It was reported that 16 degree universities were subject to D-2 visa restrictions and four others were subject to D-4 visa restrictions for language courses. The list includes a number of universities, colleges and institutes, the practical scope of application of which may vary according to the campus and the curriculum.

The Korean Government evaluates schools using indicators such as foreign student management, internationalization base, enrolment and academic support, and academic and employment outcomes. Schools that meet IEQAS certifications are entitled to a simpler visa review, and some of the accredited universities have an additional advantage in relation to scholarships.

Reminders for applicants from Taiwan

Taiwan students wishing to apply to Korean universities or language halls should not read only school rankings or advertisements for admission. Prior to sending a down payment or arrangement, schools should be certified with IEQAS on the Korean government Studi in Korea platform, and limited to applicable degree courses, language courses or specific school districts.

This measure is not a restriction on Taiwan ' s citizenship or a complete visa cut-off for all Korean universities; It is the result of the management of specific schools and curricula. If the school is on the restricted list, the applicant should confirm directly to the School International Service whether he/she is currently accepting a new child and issuing the applicable admission documents.
