The latest bulletin of the Australian Department of Education (TPS) confirms that the government is not in a position to do so. Nova International Education Pty Ltd (CRICAS Production Code 02856B) operating as Nova Institute of Technology ceased operation on 1 September 2026 。
The Australian Government has indicated that Mackay Goodwin has been appointed to settle matters and that TPS is in contact with relevant personnel to confirm the obligations of the educational institution to its students and the means of follow-up support. For international students who are currently studying in Australia, who are still holding Student visa (Subclass 500) or who have paid their follow-up fees, this is a case of "provider default" requiring immediate confirmation of studies, courses and visa arrangements.
The Australian government confirmed that it ceased operations on September 1st.
According to the Australian Ministry of Education TPS, Nova Institute of Technology Discontinuation on Tuesday, 1 September 2026 。 At the same time, students are required to obtain up-to-date information as soon as possible, including records of completed modules, achievements and lessons.

How can TPS assist international students?
The Australian Training Service is a government system that safeguards the rights and interests of students when educational institutions are unable to continue to offer courses. The Australian Department of Education has stated that when an educational institution occurs, the original educational institution is, in principle, required to process the placement or non-use of school fees within the statutory period.
According to the general rules of TPS, an educational institution, after the program default, must Within 14 days One of the following measures is taken:
- (b) Arranging for students to attend suitable alternative courses; or
- Returns unused terms.
If the former educational institution fails to meet its obligations, TPS may further assist students in finding alternative courses at other Australian educational institutions or in processing refunds for unused tuition fees.
This does not mean that all students will automatically receive a refund of the same amount, and the actual processing will still depend on the completion of the course, the use of tuition fees, the written contract and the status of individual studies.
First thing: First thing, keep a full learning record.
TPS specifically reminds Nova Institute of Technology that students should get up-to-date updates as soon as possible. If later transferred to another school, the new educational institution may need to look at completed courses and schools in order to judge whether it is possible to proceed with credit transfer or recognition of Prior Learning.
If students are unable to obtain records of completed units from Nova, the Australian Department of Education announced that the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) may be able to provide assistance in relation to student records.
Therefore, it is not appropriate for the students affected to keep only receipt of contributions at this time, but also to download or back up simultaneously:
- The report card and the Statement of Action;
- Completed and ongoing unit records;
- CoE, student contract and invice/receipt;
- (b) A course, refund or suspension notice for dealings with the school.
Student visas are not automatically extended by TPS
When educational institutions cease to operate, it is the immigration status that is most easily overlooked by students. The role of the TPS is mainly to provide education and school fees; Students' visas, the right to work and immigration remain administered by Australia 。
The Department of Education in Australia has made it clear on Nova's page that students should consult directly with the Department of Home Affairs on issues related to visa status, working disputes and travel.
Therefore, even if the students are waiting for TPS placement, it should not be assumed that the original CoE and visa conditions will be automatically maintained. The transfer to the new CRIOS course should confirm whether the new CoE, the course level and the visa conditions need to be further addressed.
Implications for Taiwanese students and families
The incident reminded students wishing to study in Australia to confirm whether the school was legally registered by CRICOS programme, RTO and whether the curriculum was available within the Australian government system, in addition to the tuition and admission thresholds.
If Taiwan’s students are currently in school at Nova Institute of Technology, it is recommended that it be operated immediately on the Ministry of Education’s TPS page and that priority be given to “getting student records, confirming that school fees have been paid, looking at the TPS circulars, contacting Home Affairs”.
Students who have not yet left the country but who have paid their contributions should also stop making additional payments, maintain complete payment and admission documents, and confirm to TPS the type of treatment they have in their cases, before deciding whether to accept alternative courses or apply for a refund of tuition fees that have not been used.
