Coventry University announced on 23 September 2026 that its Almaty campus in Kazakhstan officially opened on 22 September. The campus, developed with Primus Capital LLP, is the group's second site in Kazakhstan.
Initial courses and later provision
The announcement lists initial foundation courses in business, computing, international relations, engineering, and arts and design. Undergraduate courses such as electronic engineering, architectural technology, and games design and development, along with master's subjects including air transport management and control, robotics and intelligent automation, are to follow. They should not all be described as already running.
Two cities at different stages
Coventry's first campus in Astana was established in September 2024. The university says a new flagship complex there is scheduled to open in 2027, with a time-capsule ceremony held on 21 September. This is a separate development from the opening in Almaty on 22 September.
Kazakh outlet Kursiv reported the start of construction in Astana on 21 September, citing the country's higher education ministry on teaching and research facilities. That earlier report still described Almaty as planned to open in September. This article uses the university's later announcement to confirm Almaty's opening while distinguishing it from the unfinished Astana project.
Implications for Taiwanese students and families
Editorial analysis: this is an example of transnational British higher education, not an equivalent to studying physically in the UK. Interested families should confirm the teaching location, courses actually available, progression requirements, awarding arrangements and fees. A British university name alone does not establish UK visa eligibility, work rights or a guaranteed campus transfer. Unverified Taiwan recruitment quotas and fees are not included.
