Start with the population measured
The Association of Atlantic Universities published its October 1 preliminary survey on October 14. Memorial had 2,609 full-time visa students in 2026, down from 3,114 in 2025: a fall of 505, or 16.2%. The total includes 1,232 undergraduates and 1,377 graduate students. This is a full-time measure, not every enrolment category.
Why another report says 45%
CBC reported on October 22 that all international students fell from 4,889 in 2023 to 2,682 in 2026, roughly 45%. Its interview with the registrar also identified growth in new international entrants this year. Total students, full-time visa students and new entrants are different populations; three-year changes are not annual rates.
A planning checklist for Taiwanese applicants
These figures describe recruitment conditions, not an individual admission or visa probability. Check current tuition, program availability, student support and entry requirements separately. A university’s desire to recruit more students does not itself change government rules.
