Payment pause and next steps

Ontario paused OSAP payments associated with private postsecondary institutions on October 6. Its October 20 update says stronger validation is expected in the new year, subject to legislation. Payments will remain paused until the process is in place; January 1 is not a guaranteed restart date.

Scope and policy status

The ministry reports inspections at eight private career colleges, within a sector-wide investigation. Proposed measures include limits on OSAP-funded enrolment, exclusion of predominantly online programs and stronger identity checks. These are proposals, not findings that every affected school broke the law. HESA’s October 23 independent analysis questions the breadth and justification of the blanket pause.

What Taiwanese families should check

This concerns provincial student aid and private-sector oversight. It is neither a new scholarship for Taiwanese students nor a blanket cancellation of admission licences. Ask the target school about course continuity, payments and refunds; assess personal OSAP eligibility separately.
