An October decision with funding from 2027

The German Science and Humanities Council and DFG announced the selection on October 2: five of eleven applications succeeded. They are Freiburg, Jena and Cologne, plus the Rhine-Main Universities and Ruhr Innovation Lab consortia. This is a follow-up to the published decision, with funding starting in January 2027.

Count consortia and universities accurately

Rhine-Main comprises TU Darmstadt, Goethe Frankfurt and Johannes Gutenberg Mainz; Ruhr Innovation Lab includes Ruhr Bochum and TU Dortmund. Together with ten renewals, there are fifteen funded institutions or consortia. The SIGN scientists’ network’s October 6 account of a WDR program provides independent context on the research-funding system.

Compare programs and supervision separately

The strategy supports research and institutional development; it is not a universal teaching-quality ranking. Compare course language, degree requirements, research fit and supervision. Admission and scholarships have separate applications. The image is an archive photograph of a Freiburg university building.
