The PIE reported on 15 October that discussions at the 12–13 October Irish international education forum linked growth to housing, student experience and public support. Speakers’ views should not be treated as a representative survey of residents or international students.

Policy context in place

The government’s 2026–2035 student accommodation strategy, published on 24 March, projects a need for 42,000 beds by 2035, including an existing deficit of 15,000. These should not be added to produce 57,000 or presented as new dormitories announced in October.

Separation of admission and accommodation planning

The strategy addresses supply and affordability; it does not guarantee accommodation for every incoming student. Taiwanese families should check available residences, waiting lists, contract length and fees with each institution.

Editorial guidance: track the housing confirmation date alongside the start of study, allow for alternative costs, and check contracts and university accommodation support.
