From a proposal to negotiations
Paragraph 41 of the October 30 Canada–EU joint statement announces negotiations on deeper Canadian participation in Erasmus+, supporting study, work and research links. This advances earlier proposals but does not mean Canada has already become fully associated or that every program is now available.
Current participation remains limited
CIC News uses the EU’s existing classifications and exchange data to explain that Canada currently participates as a non-associated third country in selected actions. Future access depends on negotiations, funding, institutional agreements and each action’s criteria. Potential expansion is not an awarded grant.
Taiwan students should check their own route
A Taiwan student studying in Canada does not gain an exchange place automatically through nationality or this statement. Ask the home institution about applicable agreements, nomination and funding before arranging a semester abroad. The archive photograph shows the University of Ottawa’s Academic Hall, not the summit or a particular exchange.
