A review of published statistics
DAAD’s October 14 release of Wissenschaft weltoffen 2026 reports approximately 426,200 international students and enrolled doctoral candidates in Germany in winter 2025/26, up 6%. Education Post’s October 15 bylined report corroborates these figures. This is a review of published statistics, not a new intake event on October 29.
Fields and statistical scope
The release reports 56% in STEM: 44% in engineering and 12% in mathematics and natural sciences; master’s students account for about 50%, bachelor’s students 37%. These describe student composition, not admission rates. Revised doctoral coverage also means a category-level increase cannot all be interpreted as new arrivals.
From totals to student experience
In The PIE on October 27, Sven Alexander Schottmann argues for stronger language, career and community support. These are recommendations, not new legal requirements. Taiwan families should check teaching language, housing and placements individually; national growth does not guarantee personal employment.
