The announced decision
On October 21, the Department for Education accepted 27 recommendations from Sir David Bell’s review of antisemitism in England’s schools and colleges. Planned measures include leadership training, stronger safeguarding and political-impartiality guidance, better incident reporting and support for complex cases. This is not a new rule already operating at every UK university.
Implementation needs follow-up
An implementation group will support delivery, with Bell asked to review progress after one year. FE Week independently reports the recommendations and the Association of Colleges’ call for age- and context-appropriate resources. Acceptance, detailed policy and implementation are separate stages; this article does not extrapolate a national prevalence rate from limited evidence.
Support that families can check
Families considering schools or colleges in England can ask about anti-discrimination policies, reporting contacts, residential support and counselling. This editorial checklist concerns student support, not a new visa, admission or scholarship entitlement.
