The VUW Postgraduate International Scholarship provides NZD 10,000 towards tuition for eligible new full-fee international students in 120-, 180- or 240-point master’s degrees or a 120-point Postgraduate Diploma. The tenure is one year; the amount should not be multiplied by programme length.

Assessment with the admission application

No separate scholarship application is needed, but applicants must hold a conditional or unconditional offer and study full-time on campus. Taiwan applicants must meet international-status rules. Exclusions include specified New Zealand/Australian citizenship and residence categories, government sponsorship, exchange/study abroad/twinning and credit transfer.

The university lists exceptions for EAP progression and VUW bachelor’s or honours graduates moving to postgraduate study. Returning students should check their own study history against the rules rather than assume that a new programme makes them an eligible new student.

2027 applications remain open

Checked on 14 October 2026, the Master of Data Science international admissions page still lists the NZD 10,000 award and application link, with applications by 7 December 2026 for Trimester 1 2027. Other programmes have their own selection, prerequisite and timing requirements.

StudyU’s programme comparison also distinguishes the NZD 15,000 undergraduate award from the NZD 10,000 postgraduate award. Editorial guidance: check points and eligibility before comparing total tuition; a fee quoted per 120 points is not necessarily the full master’s programme cost.
