Translation & Interpreting 會處理 textual analysis、translation theory、specialised translation、interpreting modes、terminology、localisation、subtitling 與 computer-assisted translation。不同國家的課程結構差異很大，有些大學提供完整大學學士，有些則把專業翻譯放在 Modern Languages 或 postgraduate level。
一、主要會讀什麼
CUHK 的 BA in Translation 同時涵蓋 translation theory、commercial/legal/media/literary translation、interpreting、computer-assisted translation 與 capstone project；HKBU 的 BA Translation 也強調 bilingual/bicultural communication 與專業 translation/interpreting training。
二、Translation 和 Modern Languages 差在哪
Modern Languages 以語言能力、文化與區域研究為核心；Translation & Interpreting 則把跨語言資訊轉換本身當作專業技能與研究對象。語言能力是前提，但還要訓練 terminology、ethics、audience、register、technology 與 specialised domains。
三、翻譯和口譯也不同
Translation 主要處理 written text；Interpreting 處理即時 spoken communication，常見 simultaneous、consecutive、dialogue interpreting。兩者需要的速度、記憶、note-taking 與 preparation 不同。
四、適合什麼學生
- 至少兩種語言能力很強
- 對字詞、語氣、文化差異敏感
- 願意大量閱讀、修訂與查證
- 對法律、商業、媒體、科技或國際事務等專業領域有興趣
五、申請前怎麼準備
先確認課程是 undergraduate major、Modern Languages pathway，還是 postgraduate professional programme。也要確認授課語言、工作語言組合，以及是否要求面試、語言測驗或作品。
