Archaeology 透過遺址、器物、骨骼、環境資料、科學分析與文獻理解過去社會。真正的課程同時包含 theory、fieldwork、laboratory methods 與 heritage。
一、主要會讀什麼
常見內容包括 archaeological theory、excavation、survey、material culture、human evolution、archaeological science、ancient societies、GIS、heritage management。
二、和 History 差在哪
History 主要依靠 written sources；Archaeology 會大量處理物質證據與沒有文字紀錄的時期，也常進行 fieldwork、lab analysis 和 spatial analysis。
三、適合什麼學生
- 喜歡歷史但也喜歡實作
- 能接受戶外 fieldwork
- 對古代文明、材料、骨骼、遺址或 heritage 有興趣
- 願意同時碰 humanities 與 science
四、申請前怎麼準備
History、Geography、Biology、Chemistry、Classics 都有幫助。若未來想走 archaeological science，數理與實驗科學背景會更重要。
