Criminology is concerned with "why crime occurs, how the system responds, how research and information can be used to reduce risk." Some courses are oriented towards social sciences, others like UCL Crime and Security Science are integrated into statistics, programming, geography and security technology.
I. What are the main readings?
Common elements include crime theory, policing, criminal justice, research methods, statistics, forensic psychology, intelligence and security, digital crime, data analysis and crime prevention.
What's the difference with Law?
Law focuses on legal systems, cases, norms and legal reasoning; Criminology focuses more on crime phenomena, behaviour, social environment and policy effectiveness. In order to be a lawyer, legal qualifications are usually still required.

Psychology focuses on human cognitive, behavioural and psychological mechanisms; Criminology may use psychology but also sociology, political science, statistics and public policy.
