Animal Science is not Veterinary Medicine. It looks at how animals grow, nourish, reproduce, behave and be cared for, and may extend to prevention systems, welfare, genetics and research.
I. What do you read mainly?
Cornell Animal Science BS recommends that applicants have the basis for progress with a biology, chemistry, physics or mattics, with the course itself emphasizing animal biology and multiple career paths. Wageningen Animal Sciences uses animal heart, behaviour, Welfare and responsible animal husbandry as its core.
What's the difference with Veterinary Medicine?
Veterinary Medicine is clinical professional training aimed at becoming a veterinarian; Animal Science is a Bachelor of Science degree in science, which may lead to research, Nutrition, writing, animal welfare, and industry, and may serve as an academic background for some students to follow up on their applications for veterinary medicine.
What's the difference with Biology?
Biology is broader in scope, ranging from molecules, cells to ecosystems; Animal Science focuses on the animals themselves and on how humans manage, care and research them responsibly.
IV. What students are suitable for?
- Like biology with animals
- Interest in Nutrition, Genetics, Behaviour, Welfare
- Willing to contact Lab, Farm or Field-based learning
- I don't necessarily want to be a veterinarian, but I want to enter animal-related industries or research.
V. PREPARATION FOR APPLICATION
The upper secondary school stage recommends that priority be given to Biology, Chemistry and to preparing Mathematics or Physics at the request of the university. If the future target is Veterinary Medicine, and reverse confirmation of prerequisite from Veterinary School, it cannot be assumed that any Animal Science degree will automatically be satisfied.
VI. Common career
Animal Nutrition, Animal Welfare, Breeding/Genetics, Research, Feed Industries, Livestock Systems, Animal Health Institute, Pre-Vet submission, etc.
